Wappingers Falls Businessman Receives Meritorious Service Award
WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. -- Jack Fedigan has been an institution in Wappingers Falls for 50 years. Fedigan was honored by the Exchange Club of Southern Dutchess for his dedicated service to helping others with its Meritorious Service Award on Tuesday. Seen Him? Fuji The Cat Goes Missing In Beacon
DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. - Volunteers in Dutchess County are looking for the public’s assistance as they seek a cat that has gone missing in Beacon. On Monday night, Fuji, a black and white cat with white paws and nose was reported missing by his family. He was last seen on June 9 in Beacon near Dominick Lane and Branette Lane. According to his owners, Fuji wandered off on Friday and they are worried about him during the current heat wave. He was last seen approximately a mile from his home. Bear Spotted Near Playground, Park In Dutchess
There's another bear making the rounds in Dutchess. The East Fishkill Police Department said it received a report Monday afternoon of the bear sighted on a neighbors's property in the area of Quail Run Road in Wiccopee, a hamlet in East Fishkill. After a police officer had been sent to patrol the area since it's near a park and playground, it appeared the bear had moved on, police said. Pawling's James Earl Jones Receives Lifetime Achievement Tony Award
James Earl Jones, a Pawling resident, was honored Sunday for his life's work on the Great White Way. The actor received a lifetime achievement award at the Tony Awards. Jones has appeared in 20 Broadway plays and won two Tonys for his performances in the "The Great White Hope" and "Fences." During his speech, Jones thanked his father and talked about his wife, Cecilia Hart, who died last October. Offstage, he is best known for voicing Darth Vader in the "Star Wars" movies.

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. -- As Wappingers Falls downtown businesses and residents are still reeling from Saturday's devasting fire that left several businesses and homes destroyed, the community is stepping forward to help. Vera Van Wagner, who turned 113 last week, was honored for being Dutchess' first supercentenarian as the Office of the Aging celebrated its 19th annual Celebration of Aging, honoring its Senior Citizens Of The Year in Wappingers Falls.Wagner is the oldest living person in New York, the oldest ever Dutchess County resident, the third oldest person in the United States and the 27th oldest person in the world. Dutchess County respected its elders on Tuesday afternoon.The Office of the Aging celebrated its 19th annual Celebration of Aging, honoring its Senior Citizens Of The Year in Wappingers Falls.
