Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Firefighter Slammed Into Hawthorne Ambulance Accidentally, Police Say UPDATE: No summonses were considered necessary after a volunteer firefighter headed to an alarm broadsided a Hawthorne ambulance with three squad members inside, knocking it over, police said Friday following the conclusion of an investigation. Takeout-Only For Awhile After Car Crashes Into Lodi Restaurant A Lodi Italian restaurant was temporarily taking only takeout orders after a driver turned the front of the business into a drive-through Friday afternoon. The crash kept the dine-in area of Johnny Napkins temporarily closed at least until 5 p.m., the owners of the Main Street eatery said. No injuries were reported, they said.

Prosecutor: Glen Rock Art Dealer Posing As Lawyer Pocketed $37,000 Of Client's Money A self-employed Glen Rock art dealer barred from practicing law nearly 20 years ago posed as an attorney to pocket $37,000 from an unwitting victim, said authorities who arrested him. The victim told authorities that he hired William T. McCue, 71, who was disbarred in 1998, to represent him in an estate settlement, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo said Friday. Victim Gravely Injured In Montvale GSP Crash A medical chopper was canceled for a victim who was expected to die following a crash late Friday afternoon on the Garden State Parkway in Montvale, responders said. The vehicle crashed into a guardrail north of the rest area on the southbound side just after 3:30 p.m. Fire and rescue workers quickly removed the unresponsive victim, who had a possible broken arm and severe leg injury, responders said. Discarded Cigarette Ignited Fire That Ravaged River Vale Home, Responders Say UPDATE: A smoldering cigarette discarded in a planter ignited a fire that blew through the roof of a River Vale home last week, authorities said. Pedestrian, 69, Struck In Fair Lawn A 69-year-old pedestrian struck by a car Thursday night in Fair Lawn was hospitalized with injuries that police said didn't appear life-threatening. The Glen Rock woman was being treated for head and hip injuries after being struck by a 2015 Nissan Rogue while crossing Fair Lawn Avenue near River Road between parked cars just after 5 p.m., Sgt. Brian Metzler said. She was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center by a Paterson ambulance, he said. The 59-year-old female SUV driver from Belleville remained at the scene, the sergeant said.
