Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Four Die From Fentanyl Sold By NJ Dealer: Feds Four people were killed by fentanyl peddled by a dealer from Somerset County who was captured in the middle of another sale, authorities said. A federal judge in Newark ordered Mauricio Gutierrez, 50, of Somerset held following an initial court appearance on charges of distributing drugs that killed users. Rather than accept a plea deal, Naszhere Marquette Jones took his chances with a jury – and lost – in connection with the March 2021 shooting death of ex-con Jaquan Harrison, 35, in Paterson. NJ Man Who Cashed Dead Brother's Social Security Checks For 16 Years Heads To Federal Prison An Essex County man who collected $237,000 in Social Security benefits for a brother who’d actually been dead for 16 years is headed to federal prison. Silvano Chable, 54, of Irvington, applied for the benefits in 2000 on behalf of his brother, who’d been paralyzed in a car crash, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger said. His brother collected checks for 10 months before dying in May 21, 2001, the U.S. attorney said. Visitor, 68, Injured In Kessler Elevator Accident A 68-year-old visitor to the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in Saddle Brook had to be hospitalized Thursday night after an elevator accident, authorities said. Repeat Package Pirate From NY Nabbed By Rutherford PD In FedEx Thefts A habitual offender with an apparent affinity for FedEx packages was identified and charged by Rutherford police who caught him in the act, authorities said. A Rutherford police officer responding to a call of a FedEx box burglary on May 8 spotted Thomas Mensah trying to crack open another one, Police Chief John Russo said. Garfield Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting Underage Teen An unemployed 32-year-old Garfield man sexually assaulted an underage teen, investigators charged. Jarrell M.
