Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Rooftop Fire Doused At Paramus Macy's Firefighters made quick work of a smoky rooftop blaze at the Macy's in the Paramus Park mall on Sunday. A large transformer in a rooftop parapet caught fire shortly after 12:30 p.m., Oct. 1. There was initial concern when the fire went to three alarms. In the end, the rooftop damage was minor, responders said. Paramus firefighters assisted by their colleagues from Oradell had the bulk of the blaze knocked down in barely a half hour. Police Had To Shoot Enraged Edison Man Who Charged At Officer With Ax, Grand Jury Finds UPDATE: Police were justified in killing an ax-wielding Edison man who got within a few feet of an officer before he was finally shot, a grand jury has found. They'd dealt with Merrill Rambarose, 49, before. Once he was accused of trying to stab a woman at a 7-Eleven and another time he'd allegedly kept them at bay with a knife at the Margate garden apartment complex where the final confrontation occurred. Update: Moped Driver Killed In Paterson Crash While Fleeing Totowa PD Identified State authorities identified a moped driver who they said was fleeing a Totowa police officer when he was killed in a collision in Paterson. David Lucero, 28, of Paterson, had a male passenger on the back of the gas-powered scooter as he headed into Paterson on Sept. 20, apparently over the 31st Street Bridge over the Passaic River, with Totowa Police Officer Damiano Dilorio behind him, they said. Fugitive Seized At Newark Airport Gets Year In Prison For Each Of 5 Kilos Of Smuggled Coke An international fugitive who spent more than a decade on the run before he was seized at Newark Airport was sentenced to five years in federal prison for having couriers smuggle more than five kilos of cocaine into the U.S. on a cruise ship. Dennis Edwards, a 38-year-old Guyanese citizen known as “Death,” had avoided capture after being indicted by a federal grand jury on conspiracy charges in 2012, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Drug Buyer Attacks Detectives, Out-Of-Town Dealer Caught With Loaded Gun: Passaic Sheriff A 50-year-old man who was busted buying drugs from a Little Ferry driver in Paterson fought with Passaic County sheriff's officers before he was subdued, authorities said. Kevin Joseph Hanrahan, his sudden and unexpected loss is felt as deeply as it is widely. Update: Jurors Convict Bergen County Man Of Gunning Down Newly-Released Killer A 25-year-old South Hackensack man was convicted of gunning down a convicted killer who’d only just been released from prison after serving his time.
