Duo, Including Farmingdale Man, Faked Armed Robberies: FBI
Two New York men are accused of staging at least eight fake robberies so the store owners could receive immigration benefits, authorities said.
Long Island resident Rambhai Patel, age 36, of Farmingdale, and New York City Balwinder Singh, age 39, of Queens, are charged with conspiracy to commit visa fraud, the U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts said. FBI agents said they linked the men to four robberies in Massachusetts, two in Pennsylvania, and one in Kentucky and Tennessee.

A total of 83 arrests were made in the New York metro area as part of a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) nationwide enforcement operation in which more than 2,000 were charged.

ICE Arrests 82 During Long Island, NYC, Hudson Valley Enforcement Sweep
A total of 82 illegal immigrants were arrested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers during a five-day sweep in New York City, the Hudson Valley and on Long Island, officials announced.
Of those arrested during the enforcement effort, which ended Wednesday, Sept. 25, more than 40 had been previously released from local law enforcement custody with an active detainer. Ten of those arrested were previously removed from the United States and returned illegally.

Thomas Laffey who was legendary in the Long Island real estate scene died on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at age 81.
He founded Laffey Real Estate which has 13 offices throughout Nassau, Suffolk and Queens Counties, says the firm's website.
