Police are investigating an incident during which a man was struck by a vehicle and then shot, leading to school lockouts on Long Island.

According to detectives, the incident took place around 10:20 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11, in Patchogue, said the Suffolk County Police.

During the incident, a 35-year-old man was struck by a BMW and then shot by the driver of the vehicle.

Detectives believe the incident is related to an earlier dispute, police said.

The incident occurred in an alley located off South Ocean Avenue, just south of Main Street.

The victim was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Patchogue-Medford schools were on a temporary lockout after police notified them of the shooting.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
