Shooting Puts Long Island Schools On Lockout

The shooting of a man put local schools on a lockout for a short time on Long Island.

The man was found shot behind some businesses around 10:20 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11, in Patchogue, Suffolk County Police said.

He was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Officers on the scene said the location of the shooting is an area behind businesses on South Ocean Avenue in the area of Main Street.

Patchogue-Medford schools were on a temporary lockout after police notified them of the shooting, according to a letter from Superintendent of Schools Donna Jones. 

The lockout has since been lifted.
