Darien Man Indicted In Multimillion-Dollar Scheme To Defraud USDA DARIEN, Conn. – A Darien man was indicted on fraud and money laundering charges after authorities said he took part in a scheme to defraud banks and the U.S. Department of Agriculture out of millions of dollars. Pablo Calderon, 59, of Darien was charged along with Brett C. Ridgfield Grand List Sees Slight Growth To $4.7 Billion RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – The Ridgefield Grand List of all taxable property for 2014 increased by almost $12 million to $4,712248,606. The Grand List is the sum total of the net assessed value of all taxable property in town, including real estate, motor vehicles and personal property. The values were compiled by the office of Tax Assessor Al Garzi and is based on valuations as of Oct. 1, 2014. The growth in 2014 is a 0.0025 percent increase over the 2013 Grand List. Connecticut General Statute 8-30g permits affordable housing developers to use appeals processes to build housing developments in towns where less than 10 percent of housing is considered affordable. The checkpoint will be held on the West Avenue corridor from 6 p.m. Tuesday to 2 a.m. Wednesday. Additional rolling DUI units will be patrolling throughout the city. Police received a call at 6:44 a.m. reporting the accident. A 2006 Honda CRV driven by a 59-year-old Danbury resident was traveling east on Lake Avenue when it hit the pedestrian, police said. Stamford Museum Taps Into Nature For Pure Maple Syrup STAMFORD, Conn. – Though the cold weather has taken its toll, the Stamford Museum & Nature Center has still been able to produce lots of delicious maple syrup in its Sugarhouse this year. Visitors got a glimpse Sunday at the last open house of the season as volunteer Allan Klumac and staff member Lisa Monachelli took them through the process of tapping sugar maple trees and boiling the sap down to produce the syrup.
