Kevin Joseph Hanrahan, his sudden and unexpected loss is felt as deeply as it is widely. Shock mixed with profound sadness as word spread that a heart attack cut down a man who was known to be as kind as he was powerful. He was only 61. Hanrahan was headed to his son's house in his 2020 Dodge Ram 1500 when he was stricken on Route 287 in Morris County around 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27. Retired State Trooper Suffered Medical Episode Before Route 287 Crash: Family, Police The driver who died in a crash on Route 287 in Morris County this week has been identified as retired New Jersey State Trooper Kevin Hanrahan.  Hanrahan, 61, was heading north near milepost 31.4 in Harding Township around 9:05 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, when he ran off the road to the left and struck a metal guardrail, New Jersey State Police Trooper Charles Marchan said. Hanrahan was rushed to a hospital, where he later died, Marchan said. Hanrahan's son, Kevin, said he had suffered a medical episode. Troopers from the Marine Services Bureau were dispatched to a marsh near the Ocean City Airport around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, when the mother of one called in the situation to police, New Jersey State Police said. Arriving firefighters were flagged down to help a burn victim who was brought to a nearby business as flames ravaged the 40-foot pleasure vessel docked in the 400 block of Dock Street around 10:30 a.m., fire officials said. Boaters Urged To Avoid Portion Of NJ River Where Humpback Whale Spotted Swimming Boaters are urged to avoid a portion of the Shrewsbury River where a humpback whale was spotted Friday morning. New Jersey State Troopers from the Marine Services Bureau responded to the Route 36 bridge over the Shrewsbury River for the report of the whale around 9:25 a.m., police said.
