Firefighters Douse Intense Attic Blaze In Garfield Firefighters in Garfield contained an intense attic blaze that severely damaged a single-family home. They got there quickly after smoke was reported coming out an attic window of the two-story, wood-frame home on Bergen Street shortly before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1. It took barely a half-hour for the firefighters to knock it down. No injuries were reported. GARFIELD FD Wallington firefighters assisted. The Ford Flex barreled up the West Avenue driveway, through bushes and into the house at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, Northvale Police Chief Howard J. Ostrow said. Deer Chased By Dog Dies After Crashing Through Window Of Bergen County Home It came in as a possible burglary in progress but turned out to be a horrific accident. Sometime before dawn Wednesday, a deer being chased by a dog crashed through the window of a River Vale home, police said. The gravely wounded deer eventually died, Capt. Chris Bulger said. Animal control removed the carcass from the Coopers Lane home, he said. “The dog appeared to be fine and the deer showed no signs of injury from the dog,” the captain said. The dog’s owner and the homeowner “have been in contact and will handle the matter between them for the damage,” he said.

Crews responding to a previous crash on Route 33 were called to the report of a UPS box truck into a Northampton County home on Dec. 18, the Nancy Run Fire Company said. RE1413, E1712, and Chief 17 arrived at the scene and worked to support the damaged areas of the home’s garage until a contractor arrived to stabilize the structure, the department said. Firefighters Douse Bergen Blaze Firefighters quickly put down a late-night blaze that seriously damaged a Haworth home. Welding work in the master bathroom of the Sunset Avenue residence ignited the three-alarm blaze, which spread to the attic, around 10:40 p.m., responders said. Firefighters had it knocked down and under control in a little over a half hour. No injuries were reported, officials said. Mutual aid responders either at the scene or in coverage included firefighters from Closter, Demarest, Dumont, Hackensack, Harrington Park, New Milford and Tenafly. Haworth police and EMS also responded.
