A 61-year-old Highland Park resident was arrested this week for stabbing a person in Franklin Township on Sunday, March 24, authorities. Thomas Carter is believed to have stabbed the victim found in Franklin Township who turned up at an area hospital that night around 8 p.m., Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald said. Fire Destroys Food Pantry In Central Jersey
Fire destroyed a food and clothing pantry in Middlesex County, authorities said. The fire broke out in a building leased by Fish Inc. on the 400 block of New Market Road at about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, according to Piscataway Mayor Brian Wahler, who was at the scene. "The building's a goner," Wahler said of the century-old structure owned by First Baptist Church. A fleeing burglary suspect jumped into a pond during a police chase and nearly drowned, authorities said. An elementary school in Middlesex County will be closed Friday, Feb. 9 due to a gastrointestinal outbreak, authorities said.
