Fire: Internationally Famous Western Mass Performance Space Burns A fire has broken out at a nationally significant performance space in Western Massachusetts. The fire began sometime Tuesday, Nov. 17. at Jacob's Pillow on George Cotter Road in the southern Berkshires community of Becket. It was blazing as of 10 a.m. The fire consumed the Doris Duke Theater, the Berkshire Eagle reported. Photos: Vanderbilt's Western Mass 'Cottage' Listed For $12.5M A “cottage” with 46 bedrooms that was built by American royalty, the Vanderbilts, has been listed for $12.5 million in Western Massachusetts. The Gilded Age mansion known as Elm Court was constructed in 1886 and sits on 86 acres straddling Stockbridge and Lenox in the Berkshires. It is on the National Register of Historic Places.  Plans were scrapped in late-October to spend $50 million to turn the mansion into a resort.
