Update: Resident, 80, Hospitalized, Son Arrested In Destructive Rochelle Park Blaze
An 80-year-old woman was hospitalized and her ex-con son arrested as firefighters doused a smoky Tuesday morning blaze that ravaged their Rochelle Park home.
Carmine Covino, 55, was taken into custody after he interfered with responders trying to take his mother, Concetta, to Hackensack University Medical Center after she suffered smoke inhalation, Rochelle Park Police Lt. Edward Kukalski said.
Covino, a registered sex offender with a lengthy rap sheet, "ignored several warnings" before officers were left no choice, the lieutenant said.

Five men stopped by a Cliffside Park police officer had more than 160 checks and money orders made out to dozens of different people, along with various credit, debit and Social Security cards in other people's names, authorities said.

Officer Sebastian Castano stopped the 2014 Ford Mustang near the corner of 91st Street and Tonnelle Avenue in North Bergen.

A moving taxi overturned and crashed on Route 3 in Clifton when a passenger from the Jersey Shore stabbed and slashed the driver during a robbery attempt, authorities said.
The cabbie was taking Jordan White, 20, to Montclair after picking him up in Manhattan when White convinced him to open the divider between them on westbound Route 3 around 4 a.m. Monday, Lt. Robert Bracken said.

Paterson police arrested 14 people and seized 226 heroin folds, along with some cocaine, pot and $9,211 in drug proceeds, during a series of city sweeps, authorities said.
Community complaints prompted the quick strikes at Cliff and North 4th streets, 16th Avenue and Carroll Street and Jefferson Street, Police Director Jerry Speziale said.
Taken off at Cliff and North 4th were three accused dealers: Enrique Garcia, 26, Hector Cruz, 50, and Luis Campbell, 27, all of Paterson, Speziale said.

Paterson PD: Trio Busted With 8,900 Heroin Bags, $4,117 In Drug Cash
Paterson police seized 8,900 heroin folds and $4,117 in proceeds while arresting two city residents and one from Pennsylvania on Wednesday, authorities said.
At roughly a gram of heroin per envelope, that's nearly 20 pounds of the drug.
City detectives were conducting an investigation when they busted the trio while seizing the smack and cash.
