$50K! North Jersey Powerball Players Win Big
It was a lucrative Saturday for two North Jersey Powerball players. Two North Jersey lotto players, one in Essex County and one in Morris County, matched four of the five white balls and the Powerball drawn winning the $50,000 third-tier prize in the drawing held on Saturday, Oct. 7. The tickets were sold at Quick Mart Food Store in Livingston and Quick Chek in Denville. The winning numbers for the Saturday, October 7, drawing were: 47, 54, 57, 60 and 65. The Power Ball number was 19, and the Power Play was 3X.

A 19-year-old New Jersey resident is in a medically-induced coma following a crash involving several of his Sacred Heart University peers last month in Connecticut. Tyler Delk, of South Orange, was behind the wheel of an Audi that ended up on its roof in a collision with an Uber carrying four female passengers on Friday, Sept. 29, according to Fairfield Police Lt. A member of the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips gang admitted his role in planning a murder and robbing a victim at gunpoint, federal authorities said. Police ID Woman Shot Dead In NJ Home, Suspect In Custody: Prosecutor
A 37-year-old woman was fatally shot in an Essex County home over the weekend, and a suspected gunman was in custody. Police were called to a home on the 100 block of Meacham Street in Belleville around 10:25 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Belleville Police Chief Mark Minichini said. Male Body Found In Newark Dumpster: Prosecutors
A body of a man was found in a dumpster in Newark on Thursday, Sept. 28, authorities said. At 5:19 p.m., Newark police found the body inside a dumpster on the 600 block of Clinton Avenue, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Stephens and Fragé said. The man remains unidentified, Stephens and Fragé said. A 33-year-old man from Essex County was arrested after trying to arrange a sexual encounter with what he thought was a 13-year-old girl, authorities said. Jonti Pizarro, of Irvington, was charged on Sept. 12 with attempted sexual assault, enticing a minor, child endangerment and attempted criminal sexual contact, according to Eveham police. Pizarro was being held in the Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly pending a first appearance in Superior Court. An Essex County man who collected $237,000 in Social Security benefits for a brother who’d actually been dead for 16 years is headed to federal prison. Silvano Chable, 54, of Irvington, applied for the benefits in 2000 on behalf of his brother, who’d been paralyzed in a car crash, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger said. His brother collected checks for 10 months before dying in May 21, 2001, the U.S. attorney said. A former police officer in Connecticut was being held as a fugitive in New Jersey, in connection with a string of burglaries, authorities said. Newark Prisoner Captured After Escape
A 28-year-old inmate at the Essex County Jail is back in custody after a brief escape. Makena Farrell escaped from custody at 480 Clinton Ave., around 2:25 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, police said. Farrell led a brief foot pursuit and was ultimately captured at Van Vechten Street, authorities said. Farrell was initially arrested on Thursday, Sept. 14 in the 900 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue for drug-related charges, police said. she is now facing charges of escape, eluding, obstruction of the administration of the law, and burglary.
