Beginning on Monday, Tappan Zee Contractors will be preparing precast slap installation near the bridge in South Nyack and Tarrytown, leading to lane and ramp closures during the week.
The construction activities will require the use of machines to break pavement and cut deck panels near the old bridge’s abutments, making it unsafe for motorists or pedestrians.
According to officials, the effort will require multiple overnight lane closures on the Thruway of southbound/eastbound lanes from exit 11 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W) to exit 9 (Tarrytown – Sleepy Hollow – US Route 9) as well as the southbound/eastbound Thruway exit 10 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W) on-ramp on the nights of Thursday, Oct. 19, and Friday, Oct. 20. Southbound/eastbound drivers will be detoured to the exit 11 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W).
All four Rockland-bound lanes will remain open during the operation.
Each night beginning on Monday, Oct. 23, the ramp will be closed each night beginning at 9 p.m. There will then be one lane closed beginning at 7 p.m., with a second closed an hour later. This week, a third lane will be closed beginning at approximately 11 p.m. each night.
The ramp will be reopened each morning at 5 a.m. All lanes will be restored before 6 a.m. in advance of the morning commute.
