Irvington Superintendent Search 'On Target'

IRVINGTON, N.Y. – Irvington School Board President John Dawson says that the search for a new superintendent is on schedule.

“We are right on target from our original timeline that was given to us by Dr. Roelle,” Dawson said during a recent Board of Education meeting, adding that the district would be releasing information on the search this week. “So more to come.”

Search consultants from the firm of Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates presented several candidates for consideration in January. School officials have said they want to decide on a replacement by February so that the new superintendent can begin in July.

The new superintendent will take over from interim superintendent Robert Roelle. Roelle joined the district in August after the sudden retirement of Kathleen Matusiak after seven years of service.

School officials hired HYA to find a permanent superintendent for the 2012-13 school year. The superintendent search process included getting input from school officials, teachers, community members and parents during a few days in November.

Parents told search consultants they wanted a “bulldog” superintendent: someone who was a leader with vision. A leadership profile was constructed and school board officials adopted it in its search for a superintendent.
