Wanted 21-Year-Old Opens Fire On Officers During Arrest Attempt In Amityville, Police Say
A 21-year-old robbery suspect shot at two police officers who then returned fire, injuring the gunman, during a shootout on Long Island, authorities said.
The incident happened at around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, in North Amityville, according to Suffolk County Police.
At the time, the officers were transporting another inmate to a police station when they saw a man who was wanted for robbery and a missing firearm.
The suspect, identified as Jayvon Bell, ran from the scene and the two officers chased after him on Maple Road, police said.

Devin Spraggins, a transient who has several addresses in the Bronx, was apprehended by US Marshals and New York Police detectives around 9 p.m., Thursday, April 6, for the attempted murder of NYPD Officer Brett Boller, age 22, of Hauppauge on Wednesday, April 5, said NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig.

A Long Island man has been convicted for attempting to kill four Nassau County police officers during a traffic stop.
Duane Costa, age 37, of Uniondale, was found guilty on Thursday, Dec. 16 of four counts of attempted murder and other charges in connection with the 2018 stop, said Acting Nassau County District Attorney Joyce Smith.

A dog was fatally shot after attacking four people, including a police officer on Long Island.
The incident took place around 12:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 27 in Setauket.
That's when Suffolk County Police responded to a home on St. George Glen Road for a report of a dog attacking three residents.
