Ex-nypd Officer Charged For High-Speed, Drunken Crash On Long Island
A former NYPD officer and Marine reservist was arraigned for his part in an alleged drunk driving crash that killed a 22-year-old, authorities announced.
Aaron Cooper, age 26 of Lindenhurst, faced his charges on Tuesday, April 16, the Nassau County District Attorney announced.
Cooper, who was a former officer at the NYPD’s 17th precinct and a Marine reservist, was allegedly driving drunk on Saturday, Feb. 10.

Man Admits Threatening Wife's Life, Stockpiling Weapons At Long Island Home
A Long Island man, who reportedly threatened to kill his wife outside of a hospital, also hoarded several ghost guns, ammunition, and more at his home, authorities said.
Thomas Saxton, age 36 of East Rockaway, entered his guilty plea on Wednesday, Jan. 10, according to the Nassau County District Attorney.
Nearly two years earlier, on Feb. 17, 2022, Saxton allegedly threatened to kill his wife while she was holding their 2-year-old child in her arms outside of a Cohen Children’s Hospital in Queens. He was holding a handgun at the time and was arrested by the NYPD.

Two-Time Long Island Car Thief Nabbed, Police Announce
A man who managed to steal three cars on two separate occasions from a Long Island car dealership has been taken into custody nearly a year after the crimes, police announced.
On Monday, Oct. 2, Andrew Ponton, age 21 of Queens, was arrested for his alleged role in the theft of multiple cars from a Freeport car dealership, according to Nassau County Police.
Ponton’s first alleged theft occurred in October 2022.
The then-20-year-old is accused of breaking into the Carmart Auto Group, located at 497 Main Street, and stealing a white 2017 Ford Explorer from the lot.

A 22-year-old man with no police record has been charged with the attempted murder of an NYPD officer from Long Island.
Devin Spraggins, a transient who has several addresses in the Bronx, was apprehended by US Marshals and New York Police detectives around 9 p.m., Thursday, April 6, for the attempted murder of NYPD Officer Brett Boller, age 22, of Hauppauge on Wednesday, April 5, said NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig.

An NYPD Officer from Long Island shot in the head during a robbery in Brooklyn while he was attempting to purchase an SUV has died from his injuries in a case in which the suspect was apprehended in the Hudson Valley.
Adeed Fayaz, age 26, of Deer Park in Suffolk County died Tuesday, Feb. 7 at Brookdale Hospital, according to the NYPD.

Police are searching for a gunman who opened fire on an off-duty NYPD officer, critically wounding him, as he attempted to purchase a vehicle.
The officer, who has not been named, went to purchase the vehicle that was posted in a Facebook Marketplace ad around 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4 in the area of 472 Ruby St., said New York City Police.
When the officer and his brother-in-law arrived, a man almost immediately pulled out a gun and demanded the money, said the NYPD.

A former volunteer firefighter on Long Island is facing criminal charges for allegedly impersonating an NYPD officer and then doubling down on her lie when confronted by superiors, authorities said.
Mary Ortega, age 46, of Wading River, was arrested and charged with criminal impersonation and other charges in Suffolk County Court on Wednesday, Jan. 25.
