Connecticut's Future Takes The Spotlight At SHU Panel Discussion FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Several state leaders will be on hand for “Connecticut at the Crossroads: A Conversation about the State’s Present and Future,” a timely panel discussion at Sacred Heart University. Sponsored by the university’s Institute for Public Policy, the event will take place at 5 p.m., Nov. 28 at the Frank and Marisa Business & Communications Center, 5401 Park Avenue. Panelists include state Sens. Toni Boucher, Bob Duff and Tony Hwang and state Reps. Laura Devlin, Cristin McCarthy Vahey, Brenda Kupchick and Steve Stafstrom. The event is free and open to the public.

Westport Church Celebrates Installation Of Fifth Pastor In 96 Years WESTPORT, Conn. — St. Paul Westport has something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving — the church’s new pastor. Pastor Bradley D. Knorr was installed as the Lutheran church’s new senior pastor at a special service on Nov. 19. Knorr is the fifth pastor of the 96-year-old congregation on Easton Road. He takes the helm as Pastor Paul Teske retired after 28 years of service. Teske is now the church’s pastor at large. Born in Nebraska, Knorr received his master of divinity degree from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. He most recently served as youth pastor at King of Kings Omaha.

Police said Mark Bento, 60, of Congress Street, was driving a Ford pickup with a full load of firewood west on Congress around 11 p.m when he veered to the right and struck the rock and trees, causing two flat tires on his passenger side. At around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, officers received a report that a male had fallen in a garage. Upon arrival at the undisclosed address, officers learned the male had been dragged down the stairs into the garage by Ting Lu, 30, of Westport, police said. Bridgeport Gives Thanks To Veterans With Free Turkey Day Fixings BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — The city’s Veterans Affairs office made Turkey Day a little tastier for dozens of veterans, passing out bags of free Thanksgiving trimmings at their East Main Street offices Monday. “We’re in the time of gratitude at Thanksgiving,” said Health Director Martiza Bond, overseeing the annual distribution. City workers had already donated to about 60 vets in the first 20 minutes of the distribution. City Announces East Washington Avenue Bridge Closure in Bridgeport BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — The city will temporarily close the East Washington Avenue bridge Tuesday, Nov. 21, so workers can complete mechanical and electrical repairs to the span. Storm and saltwater damage require a detour route around the bridge over Bridgeport Harbor. Traffic will be routed to River Street from Knowlton Street heading west and North Washington Avenue to River Street from Housatonic Avenue heading east. That was the message just before noon Sunday from organizers of the the 24th Annual Stamford Downtown Parade Spectacular.  The start of the parade has been delayed from noon until 12:30 p.m.  Spectators along the route reported it was windy, with balloons, hats and leaves flying.
