Jersey Shore Driver Charged In DWI Crash That Injured Trooper In Construction Zone
A 25-year-old woman from the Jersey Shore has been charged with driving while intoxicated in a construction zone crash with a parked New Jersey State Police patrol car, authorities said. Ithai Balderas-Gonzalez, of Ocean, was arrested after the crash in which a trooper suffered moderate injuries, according to Trooper Troy McNair, a State Police spokesman. A New Jersey chain that prides itself on using fresh Angus beef for innovative burgers is opening up its second restaurant on the Jersey Shore. 30 Burgers opened up its newest location in late January in Freehold Township. Parts of the Jersey Shore are on alert for minor coastal flooding this week, according to forecasters. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a coastal flood advisory for Atlantic, Cape May, and Ocean counties. Melanie, a folk singer-songwriter whose music took her from the Jersey Shore to international success in the 70's, has died at 76 years old. Melanie Safka died on Tuesday, Jan. 23, according to a Facebook post by her family. A cause of death was not given. The Long Branch native was born on Monday, Feb. 3, 1947, her IMDb page said. Snow across New Jersey and Pennsylvania was expected to cause some travel disruptions Thursday, Dec. 7. A propane tank is to blame for the home explosion that killed a 45-year-old Jersey Shore man on Tuesday, Oct. 31, authorities said. Kevin Thomas, 45, was found on his front lawn of 253 Neptune Dr., with serious burns, and airlifted to Temple Burn Center in Philadelphia after the explosion that turned into a fire ravaged his house, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Thousands of New Jersey residents were without power Sunday, Sept. 24, after Tropical Storm Ophelia. Nearly 13,000 residents were without power Saturday, Sept. 23, but as of Sunday morning, that number was down to approximately 4,000. Belmar police have identified a swimmer who drowned Sunday evening, Sept. 3. Gilberto Mendez Jr., 42, of Roselle Park, was swimming off Fifth Avenue just after 6 p.m. when he began struggling in rip currents, Belmar Borough police said. A tornado watch is in effect for 10 counties in New Jersey until 11 p.m. Monday Aug. 7, according to the National Weather Service.
