An 87-year-old Hampden County man is likely alive today thanks to the efforts of a Massachusetts State Police dog named Orry. The man, who suffers from dementia, had wandered off from his home in Russell in the area of Blanford Road on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 21. He was missing for more than eight hours on a frighteningly cold day. Records show the temperature didn't get above 40 degrees that day. Patrolman John Borges, 48, was a search and rescue specialist and officer in Taunton. He was also a lead trainer for Massachusetts Emergency Management and active with the Civil Air Patrol.
