A Maryland man died on Thursday night after the vehicle he was driving in made a splash landing in the Potomac River in Virginia. Prince George's County resident Kelvin Gunn, 59, of Upper Marlboro has been identified as the victim killed in the crash on Thursday, Nov. 17 on the George Washington Memorial Parkway near the Humpback Bridge. Rescue To Recovery: At Least One Body Pulled From Potomac River After Going Missing
On Friday, August 5, what started as a rescue mission of at least one person in the Potomac River, sadly turned to a recovery mission for a body, police said. Witnesses around Thompson's Boathouse recounted seeing someone trying to swim to a loose skiff before they heard splashes and could no longer find the individual in the water, according to D.C. The Maryland Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team, or HART, drew some attention as they were training on the Potomac River, officials say. Two swimmers clung to rocks in the Potomac River before being rescued by officials earlier this week, authorities say. The swimmers, who were a part of a group of young people, entered the water near Lambert beach, when a strong current swept them away and prevented them from swimming back to shore, says Montgomery County Fire and Rescue. Swimming in the Potomac River is illegal and dangerous due to the strong currents and debris that lies beneath the surface of the deceptive water. Swimmers may be fined up to $200. Hiker Pulled From Potomac River After Falling From Trail
A hiker was rescued from the Potomac River in Montgomery County after falling from a trail on Saturday, March 26. Several rescue boats were deployed to the area of the river near Billy Goat Trail A around 4:30 p.m., Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer said. Temps hovered around 40 degrees as rescuers pulled the hiker to shore.
