A former Bridgeport City Council member has been sentenced to three weekends in prison for a civil rights offense stemming from election fraud during his run for office, federal authorities said. 'He Had A Bright Future': Bridgeport Family Remembers 29-Year-Old Killed In Motorcycle Crash
The family of a 29-year-old Connecticut man killed in a Fairfield County crash last week said he could "brighten any room with his smile." Rohith Gurumurthy died around 1 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, when he crashed his motorcycle at 1080 Atlantic St. in Bridgeport. Zaveriya Shaikh, who was a passenger on the bike, was also killed in the crash, authorities said. Both Bridgeport residents died at the scene. New Chief To Head Darien Police Department
A new chief will soon take over the reins of a Fairfield County police department, but he's no stranger to the area with 28 years of police work under his belt. The Darien Police Commission announced on Tuesday, Feb. 27 the appointment of Capt. Jeremiah P. Marron, Jr. as the department's 12th Chief of Police. 20-Year-Old Nabbed Driving 120 MPH In Fairfield County, Police Say
A 20-year-old man was nabbed by Connecticut State Police allegedly driving 120 mph on Route 8 in Fairfield Couty. New Jersey resident Ethan Steier, of Warren in Somerset County, was clocked around 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 26 in a green BMW traveling in excess of 120 mph on Route 8 southbound in the area of Exit 2 in Bridgeport. The area has a posted speed limit of 55 mph, state police said. When troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop the BMW, accelerated and entered onto I-95 southbound, eluding troopers. A chemical spill at a Sacred Heart University science lab in Connecticut caused an evacuation and a hazmat response. The incident occurred in Fairfield around 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 25 at the university.
