Stamford's Avon Theatre To Screen 'When We Were Kings' STAMFORD, Conn. -- The Avon Theatre will screen the boxing documentary "When We Were Kings" Wednesday.  The Academy Award-winning film tells the story of Muhammad Ali's landmark "Rumble in the Jungle" 1974 boxing match with George Foreman in Zaire. A Q&A with director Leon Gast will follow the film.  The screening begins at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are $12 for nonmembers, $7 for members, $9 for students and seniors and free for Carte Blanche Members.  Purchase tickets online. State Police Remember Officer Killed Pursuing Vehicle On Route 9W New York State Police took a moment to remember one of its own on Sunday. Trooper Robert V. Conklin was killed on July 4, 1948 while pursuing a speeding car on Route 9W. He was 24. Conklin was forced off the road by another vehicle, and his motorcycle entered the center median and struck a concrete curb, according to state police. He was thrown into the opposite lane by the collision.  Before his transfer to the State Police Highland barracks, Conklin was a two-year veteran of the division and had served in several other Troop C stations.
