DC Woman Abducts 3-Year-Old At Tyson's Corner Mall: Police

A 3-year-old child has been reunited with its family after being abducted by a woman from Washington, DC at a popular Virginia mall.

Jane Pyo, 30, has been arrested following a scary incident that played out at the Tyson Corner Center involving a young child who was taken from an outdoor play area, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

Officers were called shortly after 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, to the play area in the 1900 block of Chain Bridge Road to investigate reports of a missing 3-year-old.

Members of the department's Tyson Urban Team were able to use mall security cameras to quickly identify Pyo as a suspect, leading to her apprehension, investigators said on Friday, April 28.

Pyo was first spotted walking toward the mall, stopping, conversing with the child before taking its hand and walking into the mall, according to officials. During the ordeal, she was also seen picking up the child and going down an escalator while still holding on to the kid.

The pair were ultimately tracked down inside the Coastal Flats Restaurant, at which point Pyo got aggressive with officers attempting to take her into custody.

After being arrested, Pyo was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where she was charged with:

  • Abduction;
  • Possession of burglarious tools;
  • Assault on law enforcement;
  • Trespassing.

She was also served on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear stemming from a separate incident.

Pyo is being held without bond. No return court date has been announced.
