An elaborate phone scam duped a Connecticut victim into forking over more than $6,000 and almost cost them thousands more, police said.
Waldy Santiago, age 25, of Providence, Rhode Island, turned himself in at a State Police facility in Westbrook in Middlesex County on Wednesday, Oct. 25, in connection with the alleged scheme, according to Connecticut State Police.
Investigators were initially contacted by a Middlesex County resident in Killingworth on Friday, Aug. 25, reporting an elderly scam.

Three Connecticut teenagers have been charged for allegedly breaking into vehicles in the parking lot of a Fairfield County apartment complex.
The three were arrested in Trumbull on Wednesday, Sept. 7, following the incident at the Ten Trumbull Apartments.

Hudson Valley Man Accused Of Stealing $1K Worth Of Items From Lowe's Store
A Hudson Valley man was arrested and accused of stealing merchandise worth $1,000 from a Connecticut store more than seven years ago.
That merchandise was allegedly stolen from Lowe's, located in New Haven County at 311 Old Gate Lane in Milford, in October of 2014, the Milford Police Department said.
Dutchess County resident Michael Horowitz, age 30, of Poughkeepsie, was arrested on Friday, March 18, in the incident, police said.
He was charged with fifth-degree larceny and fifth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, authorities said.

Denaisha Stephenson, age 29, of Manchester, and Tania Anderson, age 34, of Hartford, were arrested by Greenwich Police on Tuesday, April 20, after responding to a Greenwich Avenue store for a report of shoplifting, said Lt. John Slusarz.

A man who was allegedly involved in an incident in which several vehicles were burglarized has been arrested by police in Fairfield County.
Kevin Alvarado, age 23, of Queens, was arrested on Tuesday, March 23, for the incident which took place on Sunday, Jan. 19, in Darien, said Darien Police Sgt. James Palmieri.
During the earlier crime, Alvardo was allegedly accused of stealing $60 from a vehicle at the Darien Country Club in which a vehicle with two men was seen on video surveillance.

Police arrested two men in connection with the theft of more than $20,000 in high-end handbags from a Fairfield County merchant.
Members of the Greenwich Police Organized Retail Criminal Activity Unit chased three suspects on foot down Greenwich Avenue on Wednesday, Jan. 27, after they were observed steeling high-value handbags from a local merchant, said Lt. John Slusarz.
Two of the suspects were apprehended after a brief foot pursuit and struggle. The third suspect got away with over $20,000 of merchandise, Slusarz said.

A contractor has been arrested for allegedly stealing items from one of his clients in Fairfield County.
Michael Mando, 29, of Shelton, was arrested in December, for the incident which took place in October 2020, in Fairfield, said Lt. Antonio Granata.

Police Nab Man Wanted In 2018 Armed Robbery Of Delivery Driver In Ansonia
A 22-year-old area man has been arrested in connection with a 2018 robbery of a delivery driver at gunpoint.
Leroy Shaw, of Ansonia, was arrested on Monday, July 13, on a warrant by Ansonia Police for his alleged involvement in the crime that took place on Dec. 31, 2018, said Lt. Patrick Lynch.
Shaw’s arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into the robbery, where two men robbed a delivery driver of cash and the food, Lynch said.
One of the men showed a handgun during the robbery, he added.

Three area men have been arrested in connection with a $250,000 comic book heist.
The three men, James Wadsworth Sr., 49, and James Wadsworth Jr., 30, both of Ansonia, along with 32-year-old Saul Salazar, of Shelton, were arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 21 in connection with the theft of rare, collectible comic books, said Shelton Police Det. Richard Bango.
The arrests stem from a complaint the Shelton Police Department received in July 2019, where more the 500 rare comic books were stolen from a storage unit in Shelton, Bango said.

Two men, one from Fairfield County and the other from Westchester, were arrested for allegedly running a shoplifting scam in which one would steal an item and the other would return it for cash.
Kasey Hernandez, 27, of Greenwich, and Jeffrey Ricci, 25, of Rye, were arrested on Tuesday, Dec. 10, after undercover officers allegedly saw them engage in the scam, said the Greenwich Police.

Two area women are behind bars after attempting to flee a salon in a stolen vehicle after their credit card was denied.
Chyna Blair, 20, of Stamford, and Dominique Mariah Jackson, 22, of Shelton, were arrested on Tuesday, Oct. 29, after police discovered they were allegedly driving a stolen vehicle, said Greenwich Police Lt John Slusarz.
