A 26-year-old man has been arrested after shooting an officer during a barricade situation in Philadelphia on Wednesday morning, police announced on Friday, Feb. 2. While serving a warrant for Libao Zheng at his home in the 1300 block of King Place in North Philadelphia he opened fire at PPD officers around 6:06 a.m. on Jan. 31, the police detailed in multiple releases. A wanted man escaped from police custody at a Philadelphia hospital early Monday morning, Nov. 27, authorities told Daily Voice. Richard Renzo was arrested around 3 a.m. on the 800 block of Market Street for a grand larceny warrant out of New York City, police said. He was taken to Jefferson Hospital for an injury he had before his arrest, but slipped past officers and remains at large, according to the department. One man is dead and another injured after shots rang out on a South Philadelphia street corner Tuesday night, Oct. 17. It happened near South 5th and Carpenter streets around 7 p.m., police told Daily Voice. Officer Richard Mendez, a 50-year-old with 22 years in the department, was hit multiple times and died from his wounds, PPD brass said at a Friday evening press conference.
