A man has been hospitalized after "pulling his roommate from the smoke-charged first-floor apartment," Ephrata police say.
The fire broke out in the fire floor apartment in the 300 Block of West Main Street, Ephrata Borough on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 7:22 p.m., according to a release by the police department the following day,
After crews learned there was possible entrapment, the Ephrata police department, ambulance, Pioneer Fire Company, and local mutual aid fire departments were dispatched.

Community Rallies Behind PA Family Hit By Drunk Driver, Left With Medical Debt
A Pennsylvania community is rallying behind a tight-knit family after they were hit by a drunk driver on Sunday, Sept. 11, according to a fundraiser made on their behalf.
The crash sent Maureen Connolly and several members of the Stauffer family to the hospital, according to the GoFundMe based out of Malvern, PA.
"Kate, Nick, and Mo are all stable, but Larry is still in critical condition," reads the fundraiser, launched by Kay S. Bee.
After suffering from multiple lesions, broken bones, and undergoing several surgeries, Larry faces a long road to recovery.

NJ Woman, 79, Beaten To Death, Son Seized
UPDATE: A man charged with brutally bludgeoning his 79-year-old mother with a fireplace poker called 911 to report the crime, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
Responding police officers found Patrick Maupai, 40, on the lawn of the New Milford Avenue home he shared with his mother, Linda Maupai, across the street from Dumont High School, shortly before midnight Sunday.
He was still on the phone talking with the dispatcher, the prosecutor said.
Maupai had admitted hitting his mother with the fire iron, Musella said. He also told the dispatcher that he believed she was dead.

2 Crashes Merged Into 1, Killing PA Dad Of 2, Injuring His Sons: Authorities
A father was killed and his two young sons were hurt— and one of them remains in the hospital— after two accidents merged into one in Pennsylvania less than one week ago, authorities say.
Two vehicles had a head-on crash, followed by a second crash of multiple vehicles colliding into the first crash at the intersection of Stoney Point and New Salem roads in Menallen Township, Fayette County on Tuesday, Feb. 22 around 8 p.m., KDKA reports citing Fayette County dispatchers at the time.
Since then we've learned Rob Pierno, 33, of Uniontown, died in the crash, according to his obituary.
