Horse Struck Dead, Pennsylvania State Police Say A horse was struck dead in Lancaster County earlier in the summer, Pennsylvania State Police announced on Tuesday, Sept. 5. The horse was struck while standing in the middle of Little Britain Road South in Little Britain Township at 4:39 a.m. on July 25, according to the state police release.  The 2014 Ram 2500 driven by 24-year-old Matthew R. Holbrook struck the horse at the crest of a hill just south of Friends Road, troopers detailed. More Than 50 Animals Perished In Massive Barn Fire In Central PA 48 cows and five horses were killed in a massive barn fire in Ephrata, authorities say. Fire crews were called to a fire at a dairy barn in the 200 block of Wanner Road in Earl Township near Ephrata just before 3 a m. On Wednesday, August 31, according to Garden Spot Fire and Rescue. Upon arrival the fire chief found a 60x120 dairy barn with fire throughout.  One cow and a horse were rescued from the blaze, fire crews say. No humans were harmed but the barn was a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Two Dogs Died In Central PA House Fire Two dogs died in an explosive house fire in central Pennsylvania, on Monday, July 25, authorities say.  A fire crew was called to the scene of a house on fire in the 7100 Block of Chambershill Road around 2 p.m., Middletown Volunteer Fire Department said.  Ammunition in the home reportedly caused the explosions witnesses and neighbors heard, according to dispatchers.  No injuries were reported but two dogs died at the scene, according to Swatara Township fire officials. It remains unclear how the fire began.

The driver of a red 2015 Volkswagen Golf, Margaret Robinson, 86, of Ephrata, was traveling westbound when she struck a horse that was pulling a wagon in the eastbound lanes, police say.
