Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Hackensack Employee Helps Chase Down Car Thief An employee at a Colombian restaurant in Hackensack who just had a company vehicle stolen jumped into another and chased the thief, who city police said they caught after following footprints in the snow. Englewood Police Chase Stolen Vehicles, Make Arrests 24 Hours Apart Englewood police made arrests in two stolen car chases that ended in crashes barely 24 hours apart. It was just before 12:30 a.m. Thursday when city police spotted a Range Rover and late-model Audi -- both of which had been reported stolen -- headed south on North Woodland Avenue, Deputy Police Chief Gregory Halstead said. Heroes: Good Samaritan Dives Into Frigid Passaic River To Rescue Woman In Sinking Sedan A young woman whose car rolled off Route 21 into the Passaic River was rescued Monday morning by a Good Samaritan who pulled her from her sinking sedan and a police officer who threw them a lifeline, responders said. Sparking Wires Close Route 46 In Lodi Route 46 in Lodi was closed in both directions mid-Monday morning after downed utility lines caught fire. Heavy snow apparently brought the wires down at Condemi Motor Company, next to an apartment complex on the highway's westbound side. PSE&G responded along with police and firefighters. Glen Rock Beauty Salon Owner Falls For PSE&G Phone Scam Even merchants can be conned by scammers, authorities said, after the owner of a Glen Rock hair salon was taken for nearly $500. The Rock Road business owner said she got a call from someone claiming to be from PSE&G telling her that power would be cut off to her business if she didn’t pay an overdue bill, Police Chief Glen Ackermann said. Wrong-Way Driver Dies In Route 80 Crash An elderly driver headed the wrong way on westbound Route 80 was killed overnight when his sedan crashed into an SUV, responders said. The Audi driver -- apparently in his late 80s -- was declared dead at the scene of the crash on the Passaic River bridge in Woodland Park just after 4:30 a.m. Responders believe he was intoxicated.
