Michael Garr, of Drexel Hill, was stabbed to death on Friday, April 21, 2023 — now, the alleged killer has been caught.
Marson Weh, 24 of Cliffton Heights, has been charged in the murder of 15-year-old Michael Garr, District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer and Upper Darby Police Superintendent Tim Bernhardt announced during the press conference on Jan. 3, 2024.
Surveillance videos helped lead police to Weh. In the videos, detectives spotted a man running from the 200 block of Bridge Street toward Burmont Road, by Baltimore Pike, fleeing west to the 100 block of Willowbrook Avenue in Clifton Heights.
Weh, who was wanted for an unrelated assault and vehicle theft in Ohio, was soon identified by police.
Undercover police staked out the home he previously fled to in the 100 block of Willowbrook Avenue, and eventually spotted Weh leaving it wearing the same clothes as he did the night Garr was stabbed based on the video, Bernhardt said.
A search warrant of the home also located evidence in this case and also in the stabbing of a pregnant woman on Feb. 7, 2023. DNA linked Weh to the evidence, Berhardt explained.
Weh was taken into custody but refused to cooperate with the police. He was then extradited to Ohio. He pleaded guilty in the Ohio case and was then sentenced to 9 ½ years in prison, officials explained. They also noted that he is scheduled to be extradited to Upper Darby on the following charges according to court documents:
- Criminal homicide.
- Murder of the first degree.
- Murder of the third degree.
- Misdemeanor poss of an instrument of crime with intent.
The motive for Michael's murder remains unclear.
