At least one student is expected to face charges after causing alarm at a Westchester elementary school by bringing a BB gun to class days after the mass shooting in Texas. In Yonkers, an investigation was launched at the Cesar E. Chavez (formerly Cedar Place) Elementary School when a student brought the weapon inside the building on Thursday, May 26. Water Main Break Leads To Early Dismissal At High School, Middle School In Westchester
A water main break has resulted in early dismissals at a high school and middle school in Westchester. The break "involves a significant 12-inch pipe that has no timeline for completion," Mount Pleasant Central School Superintendent Peter Giarrizzo said in an email to the community late Thursday morning, May 12. Giarrizzo said there is currently no water at both Westlake High School, Westlake Middle School and the district office. As a result, students from both schools were dismissed at 11:15 a.m. Thursday. One person was charged following a traffic stop in Westchester when officers found a loaded semi-automatic handgun. The incident took place in the Village of Mamaroneck around 1 a.m., on Monday, May 9. A quick-thinking neighbor in Westchester interrupted a would-be car thief attempting to steal a BMW out of a driveway in broad daylight. Shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4 in Rye, police said that a man dressed in all black on Coolidge Avenue attempted to steal a BMW from the driveway of an area home. Thousands in the Hudson Valley are without power the morning after storms rolled through the region knocking down utility poles and downing trees.
