Intoxicated Person 'Wanting To Die' Rescued On Tappan Zee Bridge, Hospitalized: Police Emergency responders in the Hudson Valley sprang into action to assist an intoxicated pedestrian on the Tappan Zee Bridge who reportedly expressed thoughts of self-harm, police said. Police responded to the northbound side of the bridge on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at around 4:15 p.m., after receiving reports about the person. Upon arrival, troopers found the pedestrian, who had reportedly made concerning comments about "wanting to die" and requested to be sent to a hospital, according to New York State Police. Man From Region Killed By Trooper After Pulling Gun, Police Say A distraught man from the region who threatened self-harm was shot and killed by New York State troopers after allegedly pulling a gun. The incident occurred in Saratoga County around 4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 11, on Route 9 in the parking lot of Bethel Saratoga in Saratoga Springs. According to New York State Trooper Stephanie O'Neil, troopers were searching for Columbia County resident James Dellea, age 48, of Hillsdale, who had threatened self-harm.
