For the first time in nearly a week, the Hudson Valley saw a downtick - however small - in its positive COVID-19 infection rate as the region reported more than 1,000 new cases for the second straight day.
According to the state Department of Health, the average seven-day COVID-19 infection rate is down to 4.66 percent on Wednesday, March 17, from 4.67 percent the day before, still the highest rate in the state, ahead of Long Island (4.49 percent), and New York City (4.15 percent).

The positive COVID-19 infection rate in New York is on the rise, though the Hudson Valley saw less than 1,000 new cases, according to the latest data released by the state Department of Health.
According to the state Department of Health, the average seven-day COVID-19 infection rate rose in the Hudson Valley for the third straight day, up from 4.49 percent on Friday, March 12 to 4.62 percent on Sunday, March 14, the highest rate in the nation, ahead of Long Island (4.40 percent), and New York City (4.15 percent).

Duo Nabbed With Crack, Heroin During Traffic Stop, State Police Say
New York State Police nabbed a duo for alleged possession of crack cocaine and heroin during a traffic stop.
Alan Stone, 27, of Pacific, Montana, and Cameron Mollica, 43, of Jacksonville, North Carolina, were arrested around 12:31 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 14, in Orange County during a stop in the town of Woodbury, said Trooper Tara McCormick.
According to McCormick, during an interview with the driver, the trooper found probable cause to search the vehicle and found more than 2.6 grams of crack cocaine and 7.5 grams of heroin.

A new tornado touchdown from severe storm activity in the region on Thursday, Aug. 27 has been confirmed.
The National Weather Service announced on Sunday, Aug. 30 that an Enhanced Fujita Scale (EF) 0 twister touched down in Kent, Connecticut, near the Dutchess County border in Litchfield County, at 3:31 p.m. Thursday.
An EF-0 twister, with winds of 65 to 85 miles per hour, is the weakest of six types of twisters. (See the scale at the bottom of this page.)

Man Killed After Being Ejected From Vehicle On I-84
A man was killed after being ejected from a vehicle on a stretch of I-84.
The crash happened just after 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 24 in Orange County near exit 36 in the Town of Newburgh, state police said.
An investigation revealed that Robert G. Walker. 66, of Sykesville, Pennsylvania, was traveling west in the right lane and pulling a trailer, when for unknown reasons, he lost control of his motorcycle, according to police.
Walker was ejected from the motorcycle, striking the guardrail on the southern side of the roadway, said police.
