Teen Duo Charged After Knife Found At Long Island High School
Two teens have been charged following a dispute that allegedly prompted one of them to bring a knife to school on Long Island. A 15-year-old boy displayed the knife at his bus stop and was met by staff members as he exited the bus at Sachem High School North in Lake Ronkonkoma, according to Suffolk County Police. The knife was recovered, and police were notified. The teen was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon. These Long Island Schools Honored For Excellent Scholars, Athletes
Just 35 high schools across Long Island were given a special designation for their stellar athletes who double as stellar academics. The New York State Public High School Athletic Association, or NYSPHSAA, announced its 2022-2023 “School of Distinction” list on Thursday, July 27. Out of all 84 schools given the award, 35 were from Long Island. A Long Island high school will stick to remote learning for at least another week following a COVID-19 outbreak after students attended a Sweet 16 party last month. Popular Long Island HS Teacher/Coach Dies At 42 After Battling Cancer
The Sachem community is mourning the loss of Matt "Dezy" DiStefano, a Sachem High School North teacher and popular volleyball coach, who died from kidney cancer. DiStefano, of Ronkonkoma, died Monday, Jan. 27, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan. He was 42. Known as a great motivational speaker who never gave up, DiStefano was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic kidney cancer in February 2019. After learning of the diagnoses, DiStefano created the Dezy Strong Foundation as a way to help cancer patients "have positive mental well-being." Following its creation, …
