Police Warn Parents To Check Candy, Pill Found In Chocolate Bar From Mall

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Police recommend checking Halloween candy after a parent found a pink pill inside a Snickers bar during a Saturday event at Poughkeepsie Galleria.

Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, a parent notified them about 3:40 p.m. on Saturday that her daughter was trick or treating during the Mall-O-Ween event at the Galleria off of Route 9.

Joann Turner of Wappingers Falls said her 13-year-old daughter found a Snickers bar wrapper had been opened on both ends.

Turner noticed the candy bar was sliced and when she pulled it apart, she found a pink pill inside with the number 4 marked on it. She called 911 and posted a photo of the pill on Facebook.

A town police officer took the pill to be tested. No other similar incidents have been reported, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call Town of Poughkeepsie police at 845-485-3666.

Galleria management released a statement that said: "Poughkeepsie Galleria has hosted our annual Mall-O-Ween event for years to provide a fun and safe place for the community to enjoy Halloween. We are working closely with the tenants and Town of Poughkeepsie police and continue to encourage everyone to always check their candy from every source – grocery, party, trick-or-treating, etc."
