Putnam Comes Out To Celebrate Season At Carmel's Holiday On The Lake

CARMEL, N.Y. -- What started as a small celebration 22 years ago has caught on with Carmel and surrounding community members, and Saturday's day-long Holiday on the Lake celebration was once again the result.

Carmel and Putnam County residents came out in perfect weather Saturday for Carmel's day-long Holiday On The Lake celebration, hosted by the Hamlet of Carmel Civic Association.

Hosted by the Hamlet of Carmel Civic Association, the event has continued to grow and gain momentum, and now events run throughout the day at various locations throughout the village - all within a short walking distance.

Events ran throughout the day, starting with a pancake breakfast at the Carmel Fire Department, and crowds drifted between Cornerstone Park, the historic Putnam Courthouse, St. James School, Drew Methodist Church, VFW Memorial Hall, and the shores of Lake Gleneida, enjoying live music, hayrides, visits with Santa, as well as craft fairs and other activities.

After an hour-long Parade of Lights (featuring more than 40 community groups and floats), Carmel High's chorus sang Christmas carols on the lake shore, and a group of veterans threw the switch that lit a long line of trees.

A Hanukah lighting festival is set for Tuesday, Dec. 27, the third night of Hanukah, with the Menorah lighting on the shore of Lake Gleneida at 5 p.m.
