A New York man who engaged in a shootout with police pleaded guilty Friday, Nov. 6 to multiple incidents, authorities said.
Devante Wadjas, 29, of Albany, faces a possible sentence of 75 years to life behind bars at his sentencing hearing on Jan. 6, 2027, the Albany County District Attorney’s office said.
Two Albany police detectives attempted to arrest Wadjas on Dec. 18, 2025, but he ran away, pulled a .40-caliber handgun, and fired four bullets at the two officers, authorities said.

An attempted murder suspect has been arrested in Albany and charged for a shooting earlier this year, police said Friday, Nov. 6.
Joshua Belland, 30, of Albany, was arrested Thursday, Nov. 5 for the shooting that sent a 29-year-old man to the hospital on Sunday, Sept. 13, the Albany Police Department said.
The victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm on the 300 block of Livingstone Avenue, near McArdle Avenue, police said. He was treated at Albany Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries, cops said.

Emaciated, Infected Dog Rescued From New York Home, Officials Say
An emaciated and infected dog has been rescued from a Long Island home, authorities announced Friday, Nov. 6.
The suffering dog was discovered at residence in Islip on Sunday, Oct. 25, the Suffolk County SPCA said.
It was “suffering from severe emaciation, a severe chronic skin infection, and serious infections in both ears,” the SPCA said. Rescuers immediately transported the dog to a veterinarian for emergency care, according to the group.
