Fatal Hit-Run Update: Suspect Nabbed In Crash That Killed 68-Year-Old On Long Island

A suspect is behind bars in connection to an overnight hit-and-run crash at a Long Island intersection that left a man dead.

The wreck happened at around 8:30 p.m. Monday, July 31, in Central Islip.

The victim was in the roadway at the intersection of Carleton Avenue and Elmore Street when he was struck by a dark-colored SUV, which fled the scene southbound on Carleton Avenue, Suffolk County Police said.

The victim, identified as Paul Benjamin, age 68, of Central Islip, was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.

On Thursday, Aug. 3, police announced that Raynard Williams, age 47, of Central Islip, was arrested in the case.

Williams is charged with leaving the scene of an incident with a fatality.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip later Thursday.
