Epic Fail: Would-Be Bank Robber Captured After Leaving Empty-Handed, Hackensack Police Say
A would-be bank robber who walked out of a Hackensack TD branch empty-handed ended up with bracelets instead, authorities said.
City resident Roderick Troy Smith, 32, was nabbed by Hackensack police detectives and FBI agents who spotted him on Anderson Street on Tuesday, Feb. 7, Capt. Michael Antista said on Thursday.
It began around 4:30 p.m. Jan. 18, when a man walked into the TD Bank at the corner of University Plaza Drive and River Street, passed a note to a teller demanding money and said he was armed with a gun, the captain said.

Police: Glen Rock Man Lunges At Hackensack Car Dealer Employee With Knife In Parking Dispute
A Glen Rock trucker who’d taken up two parking spaces pulled a knife and lunged at a Hackensack car dealership employee who asked him to park properly, authorities said.
The worker at Hackensack Nissan on River Street asked Kelvin Mack, 47, to park properly after he took up two spaces with his 2018 Mercedes Benz shortly before 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Police Capt. Darrin DeWitt said.
Mack, who had a handicap placard in his car, “became irate and retrieved a knife,” DeWitt said.
“Mack, with the knife in his hand, threatened to cut the employee and lunged at him,” the captain said.

Hackensack Man Struck, Killed In Hit-Run, Driver Found, Charged
A Hackensack man was struck and killed Friday night by a hit-and-run driver from Paterson, said authorities who made an arrest soon after.
James Dixon, 25, was struck near the intersection of River and Court streets, across from the Bergen County parking garage, shortly after 8 p.m., Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
Responders attempted CPR but he was pronounced dead at Hackensack University Medical Center soon after, he said.

Paterson Man Captured After Wild Stolen Car Chase Charged In Ridgewood Crime Spree
A Paterson man captured in Paramus after a wild stolen car chase that went through several Bergen County towns was responsible for a series of vehicle thefts and burglaries, as well as home break-ins in Ridgewood, authorities said.
John Chavan Johnson, 32, remained held Wednesday in the Bergen County Jail following his arrest two days earlier.
He’s charged with five counts of burglary, six of theft, three of resisting arrest among 19 offenses in all, most of them in Ridgewood.
