Six families were displaced and a firefighter suffered minor injuries in a fire that collapsed the roof of a Newark home Tuesday afternoon. A fire broke out at the two-story, duplex, wood-frame at 81 Wolcott Terr. around 2:25 p.m. A second alarm was called immediately with some 70 firefighters at the scene. UPDATE: A firefighter and a police officer saved the life of a junior firefighter when he was critically injured in an explosion behind a Ridgefield Park restaurant, authorities said Monday. : Firefighter Injured In Morris County Barn Blaze
A firefighter was injured while battling a stubborn blaze that ravaged a barn in Morris County over the weekend. The fire broke out in Long Valley around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a Facebook post from Schooley’s Mountain Fire Co. The fire was knocked down within two-and-a-half hours with help from the Washington Township Fire Department and the Long Valley First Aid Squad, the post said. One firefighter was injured in the blaze but refused medical attention, authorities said. The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.

A firefighter was hospitalized with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening after he slipped and fell battling a Paterson house fire on Monday, authorities said. The firefighter was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center after being injured in the 22nd Street fire. The blaze broke out on the second floor of the home and was quickly knocked down. A firefighter was injured and four families were displaced in a two-alarm Newark fire overnight Friday. The three-story home at 45 North 6th St. was fully consumed when nearly 70 firefighters arrived around 1:45 a.m. Saturday, police said. The fire spread to three adjacent homes, which were damaged in the blaze. One firefighter suffered cuts on his face, and the blaze was considered under control at 3:19 a.m.

An 84-year-old woman died and a firefighter was injured in a Jersey City house fire Thursday morning, authorities said. Firefighters were met by heavy flames and smoke when responding to 270 Clerk St., around 10:45 a.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Firefighters Douse Teaneck Blaze
VIDEO: Firefighters doused a Teaneck blaze Thursday afternoon. Responders found flames shooting from the windows of the vacant State Street building shortly after 1 p.m. They had the bulk of the fire knocked down within 15 minutes. No injuries were reported. Former Sussex County Volunteer Fire Chief Joel Sparling Dies, 56
The Sussex County community is mourning the loss of former Fredon Volunteer Fire Company Chief Joel Sparling. He died Oct. 25 at the age of 56. Born in Glen Ridge, Sparling later moved to Fredon Township, where he became heavily involved in the community, his obituary says. Sparling was a lifetime member of the Fredon Volunteer Fire Company and served on the Morris Minute Men Emergency Medical Services team.
