Police: Oakland Man Injured, Charged Playing Chicken With Freight Train
A 35-year-old Oakland man injured himself jumping out of the way of a freight train – and then was arrested, authorities said. The Oakland First Aid Squad treated the man for his injuries after he was nearly struck while with his dog near the Ramapo River shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Lt. Christian Eldridge said. Harmful Algae Blooms Found In These New Jersey Lakes
Harmful algal blooms have been reported in 32 lakes across the state as of Sept. 1 -- and some are calling for action. In total, two lakes were at a red “warning” level, 20 were orange “advisory” level and 10 were at a blue “watch” level (scroll down for the breakdown). UPDATE: Authorities reported no casualties in a massive pre-dawn Christmas fire that ripped through a commercial building in Mahwah and continued burning hours after it broke out. What became a five-alarm blaze broke out around 4:40 a.m. at Arzee Building Supply on Franklin Turnpike next to the Ramapo River. Flames ravaged a Wayne truck repair shop Monday night, responders said. Responders reported explosions at Vander Wiele Truck Service in the Hamburg Turnpike shop between two self-storage facilities. “It appeared that the fire was ignited by sparks created during metal grinding work” in the shop, Wayne Police Detective Capt. A recent Fair Lawn High School graduate who survived a 38-foot headfirst fall at a remote swimming hole just across the New York state line over the weekend said she was grateful to be alive.
