Synagogue In Westchester Damaged By Fire
Firefighters managed to save a majority of religious items and artifacts during a fire at the Chabad Jewish Center in Bedford Hills. The fire started around 2 p.m. Tuesday at the center located on Railroad Avenue, said Bedford Hills Fire Chief Jason Nickson. Firefighters arrived on the scene within four minutes of the initial call and immediately went to work including searching the structure, said Nickson. Fire Called 'Suspicious' Destroys Home In Westchester
A raging fire destroyed a house in Westchester on Tuesday morning. Firefighters from several Westchester departments were dispatched to Smith Street in Port Chester shortly before 5 a.m., when the vacant home went up in flames. According to reports, the fire has been deemed “suspicious.” Fire crews took several hours to knock down the flames, and a first-floor roof collapsed. No injuries were reported. A shopping center had to be evacuated after a carpet cleaning business caught fire, sending black smoke into the surrounding stores and closing a major roadway. The fire at the Excelsior Cleaners at 1320 W Boston Post Road in the Ferndale Shopping Center, began around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, said the Town of Mamaroneck Police. Four teenagers have been arrested in connection to the fire that broke out at a historic Westchester mansion that burned to the ground, police said. Dozens of firefighters responded to the Wildcliff Manor in New Rochelle shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26, when a fire was reported at the building, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. A seven-bedroom home sustained serious damage during a fire that started in the attic. The fire, at 320 Elm Road in Briarcliff Manor, was reported around 7:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, said the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department. Massive Fire Breaks Out At Three-Story Westchester Home
All hands are on deck as crews battle a massive fire inside a three-story home in Westchester. Firefighters were dispatched to Summit Avenue in Mount Vernon at approximately 2:15 p.m., when a fire broke out in the upper floors of the home. Four Cats Missing , Woman Displaced After Three-Alarm Fire Breaks Out In Somers
A three-alarm fire left four cats "unaccounted" for and a Somers woman homeless. More than 75 firefighters battled the blaze that started around 9:44 p.m. Tuesday in the basement of a home on Anita Road, said the Somers Fire Department. The fire, which spread to the first and second floor, left the homeowner, Nancy Haggerty, a lifetime Somers resident, without any belongings and missing her four cats. Interim Fire Chief Earns Full-Time Gig In New Rochelle
A veteran firefighter has been named as the new Chief of the New Rochelle Fire Department. City Manager Charles Strome III announced that Andrew Sandor has been named the new full-time Chief, effective as of Sept. 1. He had served as the department’s interim Fire Chief since former Chief Lou DiMeglio announced he was stepping down on June 29 after more than four decades of service in the city.
