The Department of Environmental Conservation's public hearings on environmental permits needed for the project will take place in Rockland County at 2 and 6 p.m. on Feb. 6 at the Comfort Inn and Suites in Nanuet. Two public hearings in Westchester County will take place on Feb. 7 at 2 and 6 p.m. at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown.
The new $3.1 billion bridge will include two parallel structures about 300 feet north of the existing bridge. Construction will include installing 931 piles, dredging about 951,000 cubic yards of river bottom and demolition of the old bridge.
Federal and state officials ended the environmental studies in September 2012, signing a joint record of decision. Officials selected a final design for the bridge project in December 2012. Officials say the final design “will result in a less significant impact on the Hudson and environment than indicated.”
