Irvington Police Issue Warning After Car Thefts

IRVINGTON, N.Y. – Irvington police are advising residents to be on the lookout for suspicious activity after several expensive vehicles have been reported stolen in the past month.

Officials say that in every case, the ignition key or the key fob had been left in the vehicle. The thieves then used a “device that enables them to detect either the ignition key or key fob from within the parked vehicle, thus allowing them to easily and discreetly steal the vehicle.”

The warning comes three days after several BMWs were stolen from a Dobbs Ferry driveway and a month after a string of car thefts near the Irvington-Dobbs Ferry border.

Police advise residents to lock their vehicles and remove the ignition key or key fob from their car when leaving. Police say residents should keep their key or key fob in a secure place inside their homes, not in the garage or an outdoor key storage unit.

Residents are urged to call the Irvington Police Department at 914-591-8080 if they see or hear any suspicious activity.
