Rite Aid Announces 14 Long Island Stores Slated For Closure After Declaring Bankruptcy
Rite Aid has announced specific store closures just days after the struggling pharmacy chain filed for bankruptcy.
Of the 154 closures nationwide announced on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 20 are in New York, 14 of which are on Long Island.
Rite Aid currently has 2,100 stores and about 45,000 employees.

Two pharmacy owners, including one from Long Island, are facing federal charges for their alleged roles in a massive health care fraud scheme, authorities said.
Taesung Kim, age 58, of Great Neck and Dacheng Lu, age 44, of Flushing, Queens are each accused of submitting false and fraudulent claims to Medicare and Medicaid, according to an indictment unsealed Tuesday, May 2, in federal court in Brooklyn.
The pair owned and operated four pharmacies located in Brooklyn and Queens.

The arrests took place around 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, during the execution of a search warrants at five Evolve Smoke Shops in Nassau County.

In Brooklyn federal court, 10 members and associates of the Indios Locos Salvatruchas clique of La Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), a transnational criminal organization, were charged with murder in-aid-of racketeering, attempted murder, murder conspiracy, related firearms offenses, and marijuana distribution conspiracy.
