$31M Trip-Fall Fraud Scheme Results In Convictions For Miller Place Doctor, Plainview Attorney
An attorney and doctor have been convicted of defrauding New York businesses and their insurance companies of more than $31 million through a massive trip-and-fall fraud scheme. Following a three-week trial, a jury in Manhattan just convicted George Constantine, a lawyer, and Andrew Dowd, an orthopedic surgeon, for their participation in the scheme from 2013 and 2018. NY Law Raising Legal Age To Purchase Tobacco Products Takes Effect
Older teenagers in New York will officially no longer be able to purchase tobacco or e-cigarette products. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the legislation into law on Tuesday, July 16 that raises the minimum sales age for tobacco and e-cigarette products from 18 to 21. The law took effect after 120 days, on Wednesday, Nov. 13. A Long Island teenager has filed a class-action lawsuit against an e-cigarette company, claiming that it used old school advertising methods to manipulate consumers into using their products. Massapequa resident Shawn Hochhauser, 19, who allegedly began smoking e-cigarettes four years ago, filed a lawsuit this week in federal court in Central Islip, claiming that he didn’t know the product was addictive or contained high levels of nicotine.
