Brentwood Daycare Center Shut Down After Co-Owner Charged With Sexually Abusing 7-Year-Old

The co-owner of a Brentwood daycare facility has been arrested for sexually abusing a child who attended the center, which has been closed, Suffolk County Police announced on Saturday, May 25.

Jose Flores, the co-owner of Little Sponges Family Day Care, located at 3 1st Street, sexually abused a 7-year-old female earlier this year, Suffolk County Police said.

Following an investigation by Special Victims Section detectives, Flores, 56, of 3 1st Street, was arrested and charged with first-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.

The Office of Family and Child Services shut down the daycare center following Flores arrest.

Flores was transferred to a hospital for treatment of a prior medical condition. He is expected to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on May 25.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone who may have been a victim of Flores to contact the Special Victims Section through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
