Projected Snowfall Totals Increase For Major Winter Storm Headed To Region
Projected snowfall totals have increased for a major winter storm headed to the Northeast. The complex system will bring the first widespread plowable snowfall of the season and cause hazardous travel conditions at times Monday night, Feb. 27 into Tuesday morning, Feb. 28, according to the National Weather Service. A widespread 6 to 8 inches is now expected in interior portions of New York and Connecticut, where wet and heavy snow is expected. A State of Emergency has been declared by Gov. Kathy Hochul for parts of New York as the first nor’easter of 2022 rapidly approaches. Gov. A major Nor'easter has arrived in the region, ushering the start of February with heavy snow, blizzard-like conditions, and dangerous winds that could cause power outages. Most of the region will see 12 to 18 inches of snow with locally higher amounts of 18 to 24 hours in some parts of the New York metro area and throughout New England. Brand-New Snowfall Projections Released For Powerful Nor'easter With Updated Timing For Storm
One of the most potent snowstorms in several years is set to slam the area with the brand-new models calling for a foot or more of accumulation for most of the region and wind gusts of up to 45 miles per hour that could cause power outages. A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect from 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16 through 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17. Eye Of The Storm: Here Are Brand-New Precipitation Projections
A storm system bringing accumulating snow to inland areas and rain at times to the entire region has arrived. Precipitation arrived as light, wet snow north of I-287 and the Merritt Parkway and as rain farther south just before daybreak on Monday, March 23. After a lull later in the morning, precipitation will return around 2 p.m. As the temperature will be above freezing south of I-84, it will be rain. Powered by a strong band of snow, a round of moderate to heavy snowfall will arrive in the afternoon and continue through the evening in areas farther inland on Monday, Dec. 2. There have been reports just past noontime of snowfall moving west to east, but not sticking to surfaces where the temperature is above freezing.
