Woman Killed After Being Struck By Garbage Truck In Nassau, Police Say A woman was killed after being struck by a garbage truck on a Long Island roadway, police said. Nassau County Police detectives responded to the intersection of Wantagh Avenue and Laurel Lane, where the female pedestrian was struck by the truck at approximately 9:45 a.m, on Thursday, April 21 in Wantagh. Upon arrival, first responders pronounced the woman dead at the scene.  No other identifying information about the woman was immediately released pending notification of her death to next of kin. Carmela Baselice, 66, of Melville, was killed around 10:10 a.m., Thursday, April 2, during a crash on Old Country Road in Melville, said Suffolk County Police. Baselice was driving a 2006 Hummer eastbound on Old Country Road when her vehicle left the road and struck a brick mailbox pillar, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Nassau Man Dies After Being Hit By Vehicle Crossing Street In Hit-Run Crash A Long Island man who was crossing the street died after he was struck in a hit-and-run crash on Christmas Day. It happened around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25 in Queens near 114th Street and Rockaway Boulevard, police say. Officers responding to a 9911 call discovered Ainsley Dalrymple, 67, of Hempstead, lying between two parked cars, unconscious with severe head and body trauma. He was rushed to  Jamaica Hospital Medical, where he was pronounced dead. The vehicle involved was a silver or gray Toyota truck. The investigation is ongoing.
